Hi there! My name is Lohani Esterhuizen.
I am currently working towards my Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I obtained my B.Eng in Chemical and Minerals Engineering in South Africa and am also completing my M.Eng degree in Industrial Engineering in November of 2022.
For my M.Eng degree I used different machine learning techniques to forecast energy consumption on four different mines in South Africa. The results obtained from each forecasting technique were critically analyzed and were ultimately used to aid in energy management and cost budgeting on the mines.
I am currently part of Dr Rajib Saha’s research group and am involved in a project that aims to decipher the metabolic functions and tendencies of plant cuticles. I am particularly involved with the dynamic modeling of the metabolic network in maize. This is followed by the metabolic modelling of engineered yeast strains.
In my free time I enjoy cooking and baking. I also enjoy reading and playing simulation PC games. I love camping and the outdoors and long road trips.
